Soria

#1 Post by Bodhizefa »

Soria's velocity is down by about 2.5 mph and he's not striking anyone out. Anybody out there concerned?

Not me.

As much help as the depth and proliferation of all the new stats and information serve as an aid, I think they also give us a reason to try to rationalize or elucidate something that just isn't there. It's one week. They call it average velocity for a reason.

I think it's safe to say that, whatever the issue is, it's definitely become a problem. Soria is a shell of his former self, and the Royals would be wise to DL him and figure out what's wrong and if they can even fix it.

And it is official, Crow named closer.

Good things he is sitting on my bench in a few leagues :(

Daily transactions, Todd! It's the only way to fly ;)

As a sidenote, Mike Fast did an excellent article on Soria in April talking about how Soria never re-learned the usage of his knockout curve after his rotator cuff issues in '09, and what resulted was the subsequently slow but sure decline of his other stuff vs. the league ever since. He added a cutter late last year, but the results have been sporadic at best (and at worst, have cost him his job as closer). Too bad he didn't get traded to the Yankees so we could all be enjoying this instead of being terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought.
