Madrigal and Hays projections

Ive spent the whole draft season using the excellent draft tracking tools provided here and I just want to say thank you before I say that I have spent what seems like all draft season with Madrigal and Hayes as the top value guys on the board. Zola, you must have both of these guys on every roster, because you are waaaay ahead of the field on both of them.

Probably too much to ask you to dial back on your enthusiasm for them, especially for a guy like Madrigal who is a downright zero in not one but two roto categories.

But in the end, Im an idiot, because while i realized you can adjust projections, i didnt realize I can adjust the Mix15 value as well...duh.

Hopefully you understand the difference between projections, rankings and when to pick a player.

Madrigal -- his batting average and steals carry "value in a vacuum", but you don't draft value. He's detrimental to most roster construction but there is a time and a place. I don't have him in any Mixed leagues, but did roster him in AL LABR.

Hays -- the primary difference is I just refuse to believe Baltimore will play CJ Mullins over Hays, so I've been aggressive with playing time. I reluctantly lowered it in the last update, but I still want Hays as an OF4/OF5 -- and yeah, I have him in a lot of places (though I've done far fewer drafts than normal).

Thanks Todd. I totally understand your take on Hays.

Maybe I am not using/looking at the MIX15 value the correct way. I was using it as a sort of overall ranking to be able to compare players of similar roto value...is that not correct? When I look at the $18 and $17 players, most of them are in similar roto/adp tiers, but madrigal just doesnt fit.

$18 players
Alvarez, Yordan
Hernandez, Teoscar
Arozarena, Randy
Happ, Ian
Voit, Luke
Hays, Austin
Madrigal, Nick
Hiura, Keston
Brantley, Michael

$17 players
Goldschmidt, Paul
Judge, Aaron
Altuve, Jose
Yastrzemski, Mike
Rizzo, Anthony
Bell, Josh
Urshela, Giovanny
Smith, Will

There are different ways to get to $17/$18. In today's landscape, average and steals are worth a lot. But that's in a vacuum.

Roster construct is more important than expected earnings.

The #1 lesson from the RJ Vintage Drafts is it's all about roster build, not earnings.

The O's seem to be leaning on using an OF of Mullins, Hays and Santander with Mountcastle at 1B and Mancini DH. So, maybe Hays and Mullins can co-exist.

DJ Stewart has been hurt. Things could change when/if he's ready.

Todd - Given the ABs in the projections, I take it you're figuring Stewart will take ABs from Mullins. DO I have that right?

I don't look at it as anyone is taking at bats from another - if anything, Mullins is taking at bats from Hays. The club indicated it wants Stewart to play, but obviously his injury id affecting those plans.

I'll review the situation tomorrow for Friday's update -- sort of frustrating (it is what it is) but so much of drafting is having the most recent news and reading the tea leaves.
