the Dodgers reached an agreement with catcher Brad Ausmus on a one-year, $1MM deal. The Padres will have to keep looking for a veteran backstop.

Ausmus, 40 in April, hit .218/.303/.296 in 250 plate appearances for the Astros last year while throwing out 17.4% of attempted thieves. His value will lie in intangibles.
No, it doesn't. Just because someone made him a millionaire (again) doesn't mean he is earning it. Don't make up reasons why someone would pay him three times what they can pay any random AAA catcher and get less production out of it.

Lucky Padres, now they need to get someone decent.
