NL Only Minors Draft 3/19

Coming up on our annual minors draft in our 12-team NL only keeper league. I have no minors keepers so will pick 3 guys in the draft. Picking 7th, 13th, 21st of the available players. Guys who are not available: Seager crawford urias glasnow meadows shipley stephenson blair bell winker dahl mcmahon peraza tapia. Must have no majors appearances to be eligible.

I'm probably a little more interested in long term than 2016. Minors guys get a salary of 3, 2, or 1 based on round they're picked. No bump the first year they're kept or activated (other players all get a $5 bump each year).

Looked at rankings on ESPN and Baseball America top 100. Using roughly an average of those two:

areyes stl ss
arcia mil ss
swanson atl ss
newcomb atl p
rodgers ss col
torres ss chc
guerra ss sd
albies ss atl
contreras c chc
margot of sd
newman ss pit
dsmith 1b mets
rosario ss nym
robles of was
reed cin p
newman pit ss
phillips mil of
deleon lad p
nwilliams of pit
clark of mil
allard p atl

Anyone obvious missing? Would you order any of them significantly differently?

areyes stl ss
arcia mil ss - likely up later this year (which does help if you combine with Villar)
swanson atl ss
newcomb atl p
rodgers ss col - lower
torres ss chc -Where will he play?
guerra ss sd - nowhere near this high
albies ss atl - behind Swanson but one might move to 2B
contreras c chc
margot of sd
newman ss pit - I doubt even top 20 in Pirates prospect
dsmith 1b mets
rosario ss nym
robles of was - higher
reed cin p - may well help this year
phillips mil of
deleon lad p
nwilliams of pit PHL
clark of mil
allard p atl

So tough to proplerly order these without league and team context, but I have added some comments above next to the players.

Lucas Giolito, WAS should be the top pitcher with Glasnow unavailable and I don't see him in either of your lists

Christian Arroyo, SS/2B, SF should also be on the list

If a two catcher league I would definitely look at Jacob Nottingham, MLW

Hope that helps and you get it in time

Thanks, Perry. I neglected to list giolito as unavailable. We start at 4pm eastern.

It is a 2-catcher league. Where do you see Arroyo and Nottingham in the order?

League context - minors guys who are doing well often get dealt for a stud at dump time. Top ones rarely get dealt as their long term value is perceived to be too high to deal.

Keith Law was very high on Newman but BA didn't list him.

I wound up with Newcomb Reed Contreras.

Very Good

Newcomb needs to solve control issues but should be #1 or #2 SP

Reed as I said could contribute right away and is underrated (in current prospect lists)

Contreras is the C of the future in Chicago

Thanks for your help.

Just finished a tough auction. I probably underestimated inflation, as it seemed like *every* player was $5-$10 more than LABR/ESPN values for much of the auction. This was the first auction that I can recall where I had the most $ by a fairly wide margin at the halfway point. I'm used to mixed and stars/scrubs.

Roster: (my salary/LABR salary) *=keeper

Montero 13/10
Rupp 6/5
Paulsen 13/17
*CHernandez 6/8
JTurner 21/17
ACabrera 13/11
*Spangenberg 10/12
Guerrero 2/5
Jankowski 2/4
Markakis 16/12
Moss 11/10
Stanton 42/37
Werth 14/12
Aybar 17/13

Lackey 17/9
*deGrom 15/25
*Familia 6/15
*Ziegler 8/10
Leake 8/8
Nelson 7/6
Ray 7/4
Niese 3/5
Clippard 1/1

Only real regret was the overspend on Lackey. AVG looks very suspect, and quite a bit of risk, but all NL-only teams have issues. Defending champ had a great keeper list and strong auction, so it's an uphill battle.
