Trade offer to consider: Cabrera for Iwakuma

#1 Post by daford »

In an AL only 5x5 league with deep reserve rosters and trying to replace Avisail Garcia. I have some pitching depth to deal and have been offered Melky Cabrera for Iwakuma. I am considering taking the deal; am I crazy? My current active pitchers are Smyly, Richards, An Sanchez, Archer, Chavez, Keuchel, G Holland, Lindstrom, Gregerson. The original plan was to replace Keuchel with Iwakuma once he was available.

No, not crazy but not a no-brainer either. The catch is you're buying Melky high. Melky playing at his current pace is worth the deal but we don't know if this is a decent streak of his baseline. OTOH, counting on injured pitchers is a risk.

I guess the canned answer is if you properly shopped Iwakuma around and can get no better offer than Melky, I can see doing the deal. You'll be able to upgrade Keuchel easier than finding a full time OFer.
