We have 2 ML and 4 DL spots, so I have 4 to 5 pickups coming this Sunday as Baez/Polanco will go to minors and Fister/Griffin/Niese? will go to DL. I will be looking to grab mostly pitching with those pickups.

I gambled (and lost) that 1 of Lee, Sale, Felix, Scherzer, Bumgarner, Price, or Fernandez would be available at 5.11, so I ended up adjusting my strategy a bit and paired Anibal Sanchez with Kenley Jansen (had not planned to grab a closer that early). The pitching is going to take some management, but I believe in my ability to stream based on matchups and find talent in season. I think I may be a bit light in SBs, but in my experience in this league, steals can be found in season (not so much power). I'm also a tad worried about the fact that only Trumbo has multi-position eligibility, since I have Ortiz tying up my DH spot.

Updated after Sunday's FAAB. Lost out on Santos by a few dollars and Hutchison by $1; ended up with guys I had minimal bids on to simply fill out roster spots. I am fine with the results - there will be plenty of other closer openings and SPs as the season continues.

Comments:
So I picked up J.Morneau during the first FAAB for some hitting depth. After that first week it became apparent Cuddyer would soon gain eligibility at 1B, along with C.Davis and M.Trumbo, so I figured I was adequately covered at 1B and released Morneau. Now I'm stuck with L.Duda/C.Carter at 1B and OF. Ugh!

Alternatively, IMO I have done really well picking up potential saves. I drafted K.Jansen/Papelbon/Qualls. During the first FAAB I snagged Hawkins with a fairly low bid of $4 (1.5% of FAAB budget). Then, in subsequent periods, I have added Jim Johnson ($0) after he was demoted and dropped and then last week grabbed Mark Melancon ($0) when Grilli was struggling a bit. To attempt to put this in league context, Joe Smith went for $71 (27% of FAAB budget) last night.

We only have 4 DL spots, so I am eager to get some guys back as I have 6 currently on the DL. I actually had to release an additional 2 this week (Hellickson and Griffin) because of the DL crunch.

Finally, Polanco can't get called up soon enough.

This team is currently in 2nd, so I think if I can weather some of these injuries, it will contend at year's end.
