Ortiz…..one year too many?
Boston just signed Ortiz to an extension through 2015. It's only 1 yr but has the clock struck midnight on his career? Given what he's done the past several years when everyone counted him out one would say h$ll no. But he's 38+ heading into the season and he has struggled mightily in ST to the tune of .057 with 12 Ks in 35 ABs. No matter how you slice it that is not good. Is there a yellow flag being sent up? Was counting on at least one more year from him. What's your take?

ST stats mean nothing for Ortiz.
Absolutely nothing.
I don't care how you slice it.

Maybe time will show that it was one year too many. But really, after winning the WS, Cherrington is playing with house money this year and can afford a feel good contract like this one. The big difference between the real game and the fantasy one is that in the real game you need to account for the psychological aspects of the game, both in the locker room and with the fans who are forking over MLB-high $$ to go to the biggest bar in Boston.

Confidently start him. This man is still destroying MLB pitching even though he's approaching 40. He's not Konerko just yet.
