From Overhyped/Overvalued to Undervalued

#1 Post by Hambowen »

Every year there are players who are hugely hyped and valued that do not live up to those lofty expectations. These are usually young players who inevitably are then underhyped and undervalued the next year even though they still have the same tools that made them so sought after in the first place.

I would love to see who people feel these players are this year because they represent some of the best value plays everyone can look for on draft day.

I will be posting my list and maybe edit this first post with the players named the most.

Off the top of my head, really quick......Micah Owings, Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada.

Austin Kearns

One of these years Howie Kendrick is going to stay healthy.

Clay Buchholz/Philip Hughes -- but not Homer Bailey.

Alex Gordon but not Delmon Young (yet).

I think Buck and Hughes are probably the 2 biggest ones.

I would add Carlos gomez and Ellsbury at least in the boston area. People up here were thinking he was gonna be Ted Williams(I am not joking I heard that several times) when really his highest point will be Johnny Damon if he is lucky.

I'm from Boston as well and honestly never heard any Ellsbury comparison to Teddy Ballgame. Damon -- yes, Williams, never.

But then, the main reason why I switched to satellite radio was the yahoos on the local sports talk shows.

Let's just say that the Damon comp was very popular in fantasy baseball circles.

Yes it was the yahoo's on the local sports stations. Not to mention Johnny Pesky made a comment that Ellsbury reminded him more of Ted then any other player he has seen. He is old though so he gets a pass. The supposed experts on radio do not however.

Ya the damon comparison is the one that made the most sense but when people brought it up on the radio everyone acted like they were insulting Jacoby by saying it. Oh how they forget so quickly in this great city of ours. Someone goes to the Yankees and all logic goes out the window when thinking about him.
