PL R HR RBI SB K AVG OBP W L SV ERA WHIP K/9
1st 844 220 821 152 721 .293 .364 65 38 103 3.13 1.16 8.14
2nd 836 207 799 144 779 .289 .363 65 41 95 3.33 1.20 7.98
3rd 786 201 792 140 856 .285 .358 60 43 91 3.47 1.21 7.90
4th 776 196 773 122 858 .283 .356 58 44 80 3.60 1.24 7.90
5th 764 191 765 120 884 .282 .350 56 44 74 3.61 1.24 7.88
6th 763 187 750 111 887 .277 .350 56 44 72 3.63 1.27 7.87

heres what my 16 team mixed H2H league (9 hitting pos and 25 min inns, daily transactions) would look like if it were a roto league, but i got to thinking wouldnt this be a good base of figures to strive for when drafting players for this year...i avg out each base number by 9 and thats what you should shoot for in a player. a 6th place hitter & 1st place hitter would look like this:
PL R HR RBI SB K AVG OBP
#1 94 24 91 16 80 .293 .364
#6 85 21 83 12 99 .277 .350

the reason i do 6th is because the top 6 teams make the p.offs and i figure that if you shoot for nothing less than the 6th spot you should have a good shot. anyone else have compairable numbers or have another site that delves into this a bit deeper? maybe giving certain players + and minus scores for every cat that they are above the 1 PL #'s or below the 6th PL #'s? or maybe a pt system where you get the avgs for all the base numbers and give pts 1-6 for each category then add them all up for a total figure...example would be (proj from marcels & bill james):
R HR RBI SB K AVG OBP
markakis 1 3 1 6- 6 1 1 = 19-

stats would range from 7-42pts, - are a chink in the armour that are below the 6th spot

also has anyone used the portfolio3 plan at HQ before, been taking a strong look at that lately, because my team last year was decimated with injuries and thought that this might just take care of that problem...

We have our own valuation system that will be explained in the coming days and weeks.

There are many in the industry that credit my essay "Winning Tendencies" with popularizing the concept of target drafting. Though the essay itself is a bit outdated, the principles still hold true. I will talk with the crew about getting some of my old work archived, keeping in mind building the site is a work in progress.

I know that there are some board members that have developed their own systems and might be willing to share.

In the Draft Kit Essay request thread, there were a couple of suggestions to discuss head to head strategies, so that is on the list.

As for Portfolio 3, I have never used it, but I am aware of it. The thing to remember is unless you do your own rankings and risk assignments, you are relying on other people's opinions. Granted, they are learned opinions, but opinions nonetheless. As is the case with all such entities, it may not be the plan or strategy, but the player you happened to select to carry out the strategy. If you use choose a player that happens to get hurt, that does not mean the plan was a bad one, it just means you were unlucky and picked a usual healthy guy that got injured.
