12 Team Mixed Trade Advice

#1 Post by Kelly_Leak »

Current proposal is Axford for A.Gordon, but would also require an OF pickup. So the deal is really Axford + Free Agent OF for Gordon + dropped pitcher.

12 team mixed redraft (1 C, 4 bench spots, 2 DL, 2 minor spots)
C: Posada
1B/3B: Miggy, Howard, Beltre
2B/SS: Weeks, Rollins, Espinosa
OF: Cruz, Granderson, Cuddyer (1B/2B elig too), Gordon, Kubel (Pagan - DL, Torres - DL)
Util: Derek Lee
SP: Weaver, Brett Anderson, Lilly, Wandy, Pineda, Harang, Norris (Beachy, McClellan)
RP: Soria, D.Oliver (Thornton, Santos)
ML: Moustakas, Ackley

Some examples of Free Agent OFs: R.Roberts, C.Gomez, M.Moreland, M.Ordonez, O.Infante, R.Ludwick, M.Brantley

We have started strong out of the gate and have shuffled between 1st and 2nd throughout April. Team weaknesses are saves (thanks to Thornton and the ChW situation) and SBs (thanks to Pagan and Torres being hurt). Bud Norris's roster spot has been a revolving door for decent 2 start matchups. Norris, McClellan and D.Oliver are probably our first choice for drops for Gordon's potential replacement.

Questions:
- Are we over-reacting to our current saves plight? Santos did pickup the save last night and even faced the heart of the NYY order in doing so. In such a shallow league, there should be saves available via FAAB later.
- Any reason for Axford's early struggles? How has his velocity been? Or should his stats be looked at as being a small sample with things exacerbated by a really bad opening day.
- As some may recall, Alex Gordon is like an addiction for me. He has been on at least one of my teams every year since he has been up. The 0.437 BABIP sure helps his numbers, but the increase in his contact rate probably should not be completely ignored. There are tons of OFs available, plus we have Pagan and Torres coming back eventually.

Thanks in advance.

Questions:
1) - Are we over-reacting to our current saves plight? ABSOLUTELY you have Soria plus whatever you get in the short term from Oliver and Santos and maybe Thornton comes back AND as you said, you can add more

2) - Any reason for Axford's early struggles? YES, but not sure we know exactly what they are or how long they will continue

PLUS - you are way overpaying even if you wanted to buy Axford. Losing Gordon would really hurt your offense (if sor some reason you don't belive that take the stats of one of those FA outfielders and replace Gordon's with those and see what you get)

Your REAL problem with that offense is Derrick Lee who has been terrible and shows no signs of coming out of it

Beachy and McClellan have been and I think will continue to be very good - drop Norris and add someone to play at UT - maybe one of those OF so you can make a trade later

It's also looking like Santos could run away with the closer's gig for Chisox. I'd wait and see.
