Sorting through AL Minor League players

I'm in a 10 team AL-only Strikeout league that allows us to draft and hold any players not on a Major League 25 man roster or DL. We can keep as reserves until the year after their Rookie status has expired. After that, they must come up for up to 3 years at $1. It's why I have Longoria, Porcello and Sheets for $1. If Dye isn't signed by the draft he'll be eligible for this roster.

I am putting together my list, I have the #11 and 20 picks. Here's how I see my top 20 so far. Obviously the order gets fuzzy the farther down you go. Does anyone look entirely out of place? It seems pitching heavy to me. Not that concerned with immediate dividends, looking for the best players.

Desmond Jennings - OF TB
Jesus Montero - C NY
Brett Wallace - 3B Tor
Mike Montgomery - SP KC
Jacob Turner - SP Det
Aaron Hicks - OF Min
Casey Kelly - SP Bos
Martin Perez - SP Tex
Casey Crosby - SP Det
Aaron Crow - SP KC
Lonnie Chisenhall - 3B Cle
Jason Knapp - SP Cle
Matt Moore - SP TB
Kyle Drabek - SP Tor
Michael Taylor - OF Tor
Hank Conger - C LA
Kyle Gibson - SP Min
Tyler Flowers - C Chi
Michael Saunders - OF Sea
Trevor Reckling - SP LA
Alex Colome - SP TB
Nick Hagadone - SP Cle

It's a Cleveland based league so I have Knapp and Hagadone higher than they probably should be. Also I know that Ackley and Hellickson will be taken before me. Smoak, Feliz, Chris Carter and Wade Davis are already taken.

Thanks for taking a look. ~TB

They're all a crapshoot, Bob ... but ....since you asked ...
  • Remember Taylor's in Oakland now (the Wallace trade)
  • I too own Chisenhall - and I'm keeping him - but I'd knock him down a few notches - one year in low minors isn't enough of a sampling.
  • I agree with david_hume - Drabek should be elevated
  • I would also bump up Mike Saunders, Martin Perez and Tyler Flowers and I would knock Montero down a few places - 2nd overall is pretty high for him right now.
  • I'm surprised that there isn't another Cleveland pitcher ranked higher than those two ... initials H.R.?
Good luck

Agreed...Hector Rondon belongs in the list. With the suspect arms in Cleveland's rotation it would not surprise me to see him up this year. He may have the most value of any prospect AL pitcher this year on that list (not long term, just 2010).

Thanks, I appreciate you're looking it over. My overall list is about 150 players, right down to Bryce Harper.

Frankly, since we're in Cleveland I figure Chisenhall, Rondon, Knapp and Hagadone will be taken before me. Since Ackley and Hellickson will be taken that leave 4 picks between me and Jennings. I hope to be able to announce that Dye is available and have someone grab him too.

I had Casey Kelly ranked so high because BA rates him as having the system's best Fastball, Change, Curve and Control.

Ironically dislike loading up on pitching and catchers and I seem to be overflowing in both groups this year.

I see a couple guys not sure why they are missing but definitely belong on this list:

Carlos Santana - Catcher - likely will not be on opening day roster but should be near the top of this list.

Dayan Viciedo corner infield white sox - konerko cant go on forever and beckham is ????

Matt Tuiasosopo - Spelling? Seattle - if seattle continues to shop lopez, he could be up with the big club in 2011 - this one is just a homer pick by me - I think he will be a great player, and well worth owning for a long time. If he ever gets a shot. take it for what its worth
