Your all time diamond in the rough

#1 Post by da_big_kid_94 »

Just for shiggles .... who is the one player in all the years you've been playing you tumbled onto and snagged before anyone else knew enough about him to grab him first?

I've had a few .... Dice-K, Bryant, Mookie, Rendon, Strasburg ... but, because of this season, I would pick the current MLB HR leader over Mookie cause I NEVER expected this out of him ....talk about wildest dreams ...and he pitches too?
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.

David Ortiz, McGwire the year he started off on the DL and info was scarce on how long he'd be out no one wanted to pay much for a guy starting on the DL, Trout (but had to pay up for him via FAAB, the year before another owner got him for $7 but couldn't protect him because he was sent down to the minors before our draft). I think I paid $4 or $5 for McGwire.

Got Josh Donaldson for $1 as the last player on my roster in 2013...at this point in his career Donaldson's OPS was about .650 in approx. 330 PA's...he just exploded for me the next few seasons...I really lucked into him; I needed a reserve CI and he fit the bill....very happy no one said $2.

mine would be a 1.00 flyer on a young 3B named Albert Pujols. in a NL league with 4 dollar bumps each year. Yeah I owned him for a LONG time
