My first NFBC Draft and Hold League

#1 Post by Todd Zola »

1.14 Jose Altuve
2.17 Charlie Blackmon
3.44 Starling Marte
4.47 Tommy Pham
5.74 Mike Foltynewicz
6.77 Jose Berrios
7.104 Edwin Encarnacion
8.107 Justin Turner

Pitching wasn't by design. Well, it ended up being so because I didn't want to take the plunge with what was left at the 3/4 turn. In a higher stakes/Main Event league, I probably would have jumped on an arm earlier, but since this format is as much attrition as anything, I'll build a solid top-5, supplement with strong relief arms and look to fortify with a bunch of streamers.

Bully hitting, manage pitching.

Next six picks, the pace has slowed considerably, but that's OK, no one is abusing the clock, it's all good.

9.134 Matt Olson
10.137 Charlie Morton
11.164 Dallas Keuchel
12.167 Elvis Andrus
13.194 Jake Arrieta
14.197 Ross Stripling

So far...

C
1B/3B Encarnacion/Turner/Olson
2B/SS Altuve/Andrus
OF Blackmon/Marte/Pham
SP Folty/Berrios/Morton/Keuchel/Arrieta/Stripling
RP

Still contemplating when to jump in with some bullpen darts. If this draft holds true to form, the guys I have in mind will be sniped before my next turn and I'll be forced to scramble, but that's OK.

There's some risk in the batters, but I like the power/speed mix along with a good batting average foundation.

Next 10

33.504 Brandon Crawford
34.507 Craig Stammen
35.534 Merrill kelly
36.537 Brian Goodwin
37.564 David Freese
38.567 Ehire Adrianza
39.594 Jose Pirela
40.597 Austin Dean
41.624 Nicky Delmonico
42.627 Bryan Mitchell

C Lucroy/Garver/Flowers
1B/3B Encarnacion/Turner/Olson/Healy/Freese
2B/SS Altuve/Andrus/ACabrera/Wong/BCrawford/Adrianza/Pirela
OF Blackmon/Marte/Pham/JBJ/KCalhoun/DuFowler/Goodwin/Dean/Delmonico
SP Folty/Berrios/Morton/Keuchel/Arrieta/Stripling/Newcomb/Yarbrough/CAnderson/Chirinos/RKelly/Mitchell
RP May/Buttrey/Kelly/Castillo/Trivino/Stammen

I don't hate it, considering I was chasing pitching the whole time, both SP and RP. With final 8 picks, need at least 1, maybe 2 catchers (BLECH!) and any SP with a pulse and a chance to start at some point this season.

The final eight

43.654 Erik Kratz
44.657 Blaine Hardy
45.684 Chris Stratton
46.687 Josh Phegley
47.714 Erik Swanson
48.717 Stephen Gonsalves
49.744 Austin Slater
50.747 Caleb Ferguson

C Lucroy/Garver/Flowers/Kratz/Phegley
1B/3B Encarnacion/Turner/Olson/Healy/Freese
2B/SS Altuve/Andrus/ACabrera/Wong/BCrawford/Adrianza/Pirela
OF Blackmon/Marte/Pham/JBJ/KCalhoun/DuFowler/Goodwin/Dean/Delmonico/Slater
SP Folty/Berrios/Morton/Keuchel/Arrieta/Stripling/Newcomb/Yarbrough/CAnderson/
Chirinos/RKelly/Mitchell/Hardy/Stratton/Swanson/Gonsalves
RP May/Buttrey/Kelly/Castillo/Trivino/Stammen/Ferguson

Weaknesses
-saves
-catching (by design)
-back end of the outfield
-need starting pitching to stay healthy to make up for lack of stud anchor(s)
-not enough multiple eligibility players (Droobs, Pirela, Adrianza)
