Give Ryan Carey some trade advice!

#1 Post by deansdaddy » October 16th, 2012, 10:38 am

Hey guys - thought I would throw this proposal out there to see if anyone has any opinions on it.

12 team non ppr league - 6pts pass td, 6 pts rush/rec td - Start - QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1 FLEX DST K

My team is 4-2 presently and the second highest scoring team in the league.

I have been offered: Matt Ryan and Darren McFadden for RGIII and Doug Martin.

I admit I am leaning toward taking this deal just cause I would rather have a pure passing QB for the long haul, and I do still think DMC has more upside than Martin. It is worth noting that Goodson is on the wire in this league - so I could get him this week if I pull the trigger.

Just looking at this week - I have a pretty soft match-up and Big Ben vs CIN can carry me past Ryan's bye week. Any opinions are welcome guys. My gut tells me this is an upgrade all the way, even if not such a huge one. It's just that I am taking on McFadden's injury risk. I love his schedule the rest of the way. He'd be my RB3.

So Would you make this deal?

Here is the rest of my team:

QB - RG 3, Big Ben
RB - Jamal Charles, T Richardson, D Martin, S Draughn, R Hillman
WR - AJ Green, P Harvin, T Smith, J Gordon, D Avery
TE - J Finley, K Rudolph
DST - SF
K - G Zuerlein
IR - V Brown

I guess while reading my only question was > if it was a keeper league?
(not sure it really matters just popped into my head)

But as your team is now, I might make the trade - I think you have a consistency upgrade with Ryan at QB and more upside with McFadden at RB (but you also have a lower floor with DMac)

My second question is > Can't you get MORE for RGIII by himself if you wanted to trade him?

That is a good point - and one I haven't really explored.

The guy proposing the deal is in a must win situation - so I get why he makes the offer. He also obviously recalls my dismay at missing out on Ryan at the draft as he and I were two of the teams left waiting at QB when he picked Ryan.

Well - my hesitation has made the other owner "increase" his offer to Ryan/McFadden and Steve Smith for RG3/ Martin/ T Smith.

I get a perceived upgrade everywhere - but of course I bank on DMC staying healthy and Steve Smith finally breaking out.

Do I need to hit accept here guys? My spidey sense keeps warning me not to. I shopped RG3 to the Rodgers, Brees and Brady owners to no avail. So Ryan presents the only "upgrade" for me if I want to trade him.

I just can't decide what to do here.

hmmmm.

i would "pass," as much as i love matty ice. but, griffin could be a points animal a la the camster and vick in his prime, and i would be cautious before swapping a weapon like that away.

i think the other parts are interchangable, but for sure i would favor torrey to steve in the smith universe (i had both on a team last year that i named "the smith brothers" using the cough drop logo as our mascot).

i think, as with baseball, my question would be why make this trade?

it seems like ultimately it is gambling on a trade for the sake of making one to me.

Thanks Lawr - I kind of felt the same way. My team has been rolling and the other guy is desperate.

I told a freind I was leery of trading away "my guys" - the guys I targeted and drafted to begin the year.

I think you are right - I'm going to sit tight here. I actually don't love Ryan's schedule coming out of the bye either.
