Okay - it's that time of year again to start our Consensus Rankings threads on the boards.
Please rank your top-12 Catchers using standard 5x5 rotisserie scoring rules (HR, BA, RBI, SB, R)
Feel free to provide commentary along with your picks.
Scoring will be done MVP style, your top catcher will get 12 points.
If you want to give honorable mentions to those outside your Top 12, feel free.
After we receive enough votes, we'll post the results in a separate thread along with comparisons to the Mastersball rankings.
The MB writers will participate - but we'd like to hear from the masses first.
Look forward to seeing everyone's lists and thoughts.
2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
1. Napoli 40 homers from a catcher? Hmmmm, enough at bats and 40 doesn't seem impossible.
2. Santana
3. McCann while his numbers aren't eye popping, they are a lock with a 30 hr season a possibility.
4. Wieters I'll take him but not as early as some are.
5. Montero
6. Posey
7. Mauer This guy is capable of winning a batting title but more capable of not playing because of an injury.
8. Avila
Who cares after these guys are gone.
9. Molina
10. Arencibia
11. Martin
12. Doumit
2. Santana

Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
1. Carlos Santana - easy selection for me
2. Brain McCann - stead as they go
3. Mike Napoli - would rather let someone else draft, break out year and is 30.
4. Buster Posey - could easily move up this list
5. Matt Wieters - fore filling the promise lots saw in him, wouldn't be surprised if he is in the discussion for top Catcher next year
6. Jo Mauer - not surprised if he moves up, but you will over pay for him. Plus has not shown Pop in Target field the last 2 years.
7. Alex Avila
8. Miguel Montero
9. JP Arencibia - showed some power
10. Roll some dice - Wilson Ramos
11. Yadier Molina
12. Jarrod Saltalamacchia - he has to put it together at some point? right?

Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
1. Santana - So close with Napoli, but to me, Napolis ankle trumps the ABs Carlos might lose to Kotchman
2. Napoli - I tend to avoid guys coming off of their career year, I'd say this fits the bill
---------------
3. McCann - when's the last time this guy wasn't in the top 3?
4. Montero, M - should hit in the middle of what could be a pretty good lineup
5. Posey - he's young and has shown he can do it, but park/lineup hold him back
---------------
6. Weiters - Is this finally the year? could be, but I'll rank him based on what I think he'll give me, not what I hope he'll give me
7. Avila - betting he regresses some, but not all that much
8. Mauer - its more than health, he doesn't give you all that much when he is healthy
--------------
9. Montero, J - this ranking comes with the caveat that you can use him at C by mid-May or before, after that its not worth the wait
10.Yadier - reliable and consistent
11.JP Arencibia - the classic low AVG high HR C
12.Soto - hey, another one
If Jesus isn't C eligible in your league by mid-May, I'd put Martin at 12 and move everyone up 1 spot

Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
No one thinks Iannetta will put it all together as a full time catcher for LAA and become a top 12 guy in 2012?
Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
Iannetta comes in around #20 on my list. He's more of a C2 for me this year. But you can feel free to submit your own top 12 and put him in it and try to convince the rest of us we're wrong
Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
If he couldn't put it all together a mile high, I don't see it happening at sea level, Scioscia or not.RandyKutcherHair wrote:No one thinks Iannetta will put it all together as a full time catcher for LAA and become a top 12 guy in 2012?
Re: 2012 CATCHER CONSENSUS RANKINGS
Here's my stab at the catchers...
1. Napoli, Mike
2. Santana, Carlos
3. McCann, Brian
4. Mauer, Joe
5. Montero, Miguel
6. Wieters, Matt
7. Posey, Buster
8. Avila, Alex
9. Soto, Geovany
10. Arencibia, J.P.
11. Molina, Yadier
12. Martin, Russell
I don't think Iannetta is a top guy either. I own him and am hoping a full time job will help him put it together.
