Factoid for 10 or more AL onlys 2012

Get advice specific to your team. This can be opinions on trades, free agent or waiver pickups, who to start or even just "rate my team". It is helpful if you provide sufficient details regarding your league format and team composition.

Factoid for 10 or more AL onlys 2012

#1 Post by da_big_kid_94 »

If you are in an 10 or more team AL only, you may have noticed a disturbing trend the last several years - many teams deciding to carry an extra pitcher and go short on the bench. Now, this depends on your league's position qualifications - but if you are old school where you need 20 games from the prior season to qualify? Be advised - looking at current projected depth charts, counting Cespedes, there are a grand total of 64 players who qualify for the OF. So, in a 12 teamer, you need 60 - but here's the catch - of those 64, 10 of them qualify at other positions.

So, before you go into your draft/auction, I would suggest you check your league position qualification standards and your league rules for contingencies if there aren't enough qualified bodies at OF in your player pool. I know now that if I'm going dollar days at the end, it won't be for OFs - there may not be any. And yes...you're welcome, Wolfie ...just you and Keith don't spread it around.

I believe the NL is even worse once you get to 12 and 13 teams

Sounds like it's time to go back to work.

Edit - actually, it isn't as bad in the NL - including Aoki and not yet allowing for a few Nationals bench spots TBD, there are 80 qualified OFs with 15 of them qualifying at at least one other position. So you might not get the cream of the crop but, at least you won't run out of bodies.

Maybe that's what it is, not quantity but quality.

ahh, this makes sense. normally i need 2 columns for OFs on my cheat sheet, but this year they all fit into 1. this helps to explain that.

Nice note Kid, of course the Astros coming over next year will skew this as well.

That's a valid point to a degree, Trav - but, once they move over, I'll bet they will wind up modifying their roster to adapt to their new home - and they will probably just add 4 OFs to the pool. Subsequent to 2012, I'm also guessing there will be some players with DH qualification to further muddle the picture (for those leagues who have DH rather than Util)

I wonder if the Astros realize they can't use Cust at DH until next year?

ZING!

Kid, I'm a DH only league...definitely more difficult.

Yeah ...me too .... wonder how long it's going to take a lot of AL onlys to see Montero is only DH this year.
