Any of these players have staying power?

#1 Post by CubFan »

In a 12 team AL only keeper H2H league. Looking at Eric Thames ($5), Boesch ($2) and Trumbo ($5) and Joyce ($1 but has to be signed next year). Do any of these have staying power in 2012? Will Trumbo have a starting gig next year when Morales should be fully healed? Joyce has always shown power and the .340ish BA was not sustainable. Is he a .270-20-80 guy going forward? Thames got called up when Cooper couldn't hold the DH job and has looked pretty good. Can he maintain a .280ish avg with mid teens power?

I'm looking to sell high on Ortiz $20 and Ogando $1 and thinking I could trade both and still compete this year and at the same time build for next year. There are only so many CJ Wilsons out there that can convert from relief to holding down a starting pitching gig and still perform well.

C - Garver $4
1B/3B - Torkelson $1, E. Durna $3 (??)
2B/SS - Royce Lewis $2, Story $13
OF - J Duran $11, Ward $7

SP - Hunter Brown $6, Ryan $22
RP - Fairbanks $6, Duran $16

I strongly feel it is a mistake to serve two masters. I prefer to either win or rebuild, not both.

Of all the players you list, I am most confident about Ogando next season. The rest are all speculation.

While I agree with Todd about stay/go, if you are making the trade I would want Joyce at the top of that group

Earlier in the year they were giving Trumbo reps in the OF so he could play there when Morales was ready and that's what I'd assume they'd do if Kendrys is healthy next year and continues to play well in the second half of this year.

Especially in an AL only, do not try and speculate on non-stud players in Tampa, Anaheim or Minneapolis - those three managers simply do not believe in a consistent lineup. Joyce is the 2011 flavor of the year ... but Fuld hangs on. Ruggianio was being praised by Maddon three weeks ago about being the genuine item ...and he gets buried. As for the Angels? I have no idea about Scioscia's crystal ball in 2012 - Kendrick's an OF, he's a 2B ...Bourjos is my CF ...maybe Trout is - Trumbo may be an OF ..Morales may be my 1B or a shopping cart.

What you are trying has been tried before ...but I've found very few individuals who are satisfied with the results. Go no further than Todd's all bust article of a few weeks ago - and see how many can't misses were on that list. Don't sweat 2012 - get 2011 in the books first.
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.

They were also giving Trumbo some reps at third.

With Hunter, Wells and Abreu all under contract for 2012, and Bourjos or Trout playing CF, Trumbo has little chance of shagging flies. Morales can't even play DH with Abreu around. The hot corner is Trumbo's path to at bats.

Assuming that Abreu is not traded this year - in which case as has been suggested in the OC - Morales would be the (practically) full time DH (assuming he can be ready by opening day) and Trumbo would see most of the 1B at bats (unless platooned)

I'll gladly defer to my West Coast compatriot who is much more plugged into the situation than I.
