2011 Major League Draft - updates and comments

#1 Post by Captain Hook »

I will be following most of the 2011 draft but certainly all of round 1 and the compensatory picks on Monday, June 6. You can watch on the MLB Network

Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates will take UCLA RHP Gerrit Cole with the first pick of the draft.

That would put the Seattle Mariners on the clock for pick 1.02

I sense an Anthony Rendon sighting at 7

Edit: or 6 ...this one throws me - Espinosa and Zimmerman so you take Rendon? interesting - thought maybe Springer here.

Yeah Perry - thought they had more immediate OF need.

I think Washingon is pretty much BPA mode - and you never know what will happen either health wise or developmentally

Springer is slipping because he had a poor workout day

Chris Reed from Stanford was their closer this year but may well be a starter in the Dodgers Organization.....if he signs quickly maybe I can see him in the rookie league here

ETA - great value for Oakland and Boston at 18 and 19, both getting college pitchers who were projected to go in the first ten picks.

Perry as a standard fantasy player (I think I speak for most) do any of these guys mean anything for this year for where they landed IE. Sale from last year? I honestly couldn't tell you 1 from 101 on this list but would take note if you think there is anyone really prominent who would sign quick.

It is VERY unusual for a player drafted in June to even make it to the big leagues in the same year, much less have any value. Sale was certainly the rare player.

I doubt it happens - Trevor Bauer (AZ) was regarded as the most ready for the next level but that likely means professional baseball in the minors not the majors.

So no not likely any of these have any meaning to any fantasy players until next year.
