activate Sands?

Get advice specific to your team. This can be opinions on trades, free agent or waiver pickups, who to start or even just "rate my team". It is helpful if you provide sufficient details regarding your league format and team composition.

activate Sands?

#1 Post by mjlewis »

My NL-only team has been racked by injuries in the outfield (well, one before the season admittedly). My outfielders are Bourn, Hart (DL but coming back next week, I really hope), Holliday, Morrison (DL), and Torres (DL). My backups are Scott Cousins, Allen Craig (DL), Denorfia, and Jerry Sands.

So assuming that Hart comes back next week, my starting OF is Bourn, Hart, Holliday, Denorfia, and Cousins. I could also activate Sands to replace Denorfia or Cousins, or in case Hart doesn't come back... but the rule in my league is that his service time clock doesn't start until he loses rookie status in real baseball or until I activate him. So given his weak start, is he going to be enough better than Denorfia or Cousins to be worth giving up a year someday in the future?

My team is currently in second place but it really doesn't feel deserved; I do think I am in the top half in terms of talent though. Roster below; any other commentary would be appreciated, such as "for chrissake trade some pitching for a catcher already".

- Mike

C: Kottaras (in minors), Pudge
1B: GSanchez
2B: Weeks
SS: Barney
3B: Uribe
CI: Overbay
MI: Betancourt
OF: Bourn, Hart (DL), Holliday, Morrison (DL), Torres (DL)
UT: Schumaker (DL)

bench: Craig (DL), Denorfia (now active), Carroll (now active), Cousins (now active), Sands, Rizzo, Blackmon, Sappelt, Bernadina, WFlores

P: Clippard, Hanson, Kimbrel, Kuroda, Leake, Marcum, Nolasco, Oswalt, Venters

bench: Capuano, Franklin, Gee, Guerrier, Jay Jackson, Strasburg, Teheran

According to your rules, Sands is going to start his clock this year regardless, so why not play him if he is a better choice than Denorfia (a 4th OF battling groin issues), or Cousins (if he has to split time with Bonifacio)

Okay, my second comment is....."GO get a catcher"

But I doubt I would trade for one - first I don't think your pitching is strong enough to get a good catcher

Second if there aren't better available, Nickeas in NY has some pop and looks like he is forcing at least a split with Thole. Schneider in Philly is also playing more.
