Opinions on $1 catchers in AL only

#1 Post by viper »

This is a 10-team league requiring two catchers but having no bench. Only disabled players or players sent to the minors after the season starts can be reserved. I am looking for the best options as $1 catchers.

There are 14 starting catchers plus Posada, VMart and Napoli. Of those, I have Pena as a $0 catcher. I'm interested in how you rate the following players as my $1 catcher. I will only spend real money for one catcher.

Option are Veritek, Castro, Conger, Shoppich, Kendall, & Powell. If Kendal, he will be active until April 10th, when I can reserve him and replace him. We will not have a April 3 FAAB period. By April 10th, Fox may be eligible as we have just a 1-game requirement after the season starts.

In my other league, I have Veritek as my $1 catcher. My gut says Conger knowing if he is sent down, he can be reserved bacause he started the season on the big club.

Conger gets my vote for the exact reason you state. Then if he gets sent down when Pineiro comes off the DL, you reserve him and add whoever you deem as "best" available.

I would say Conger as well ...and if a catcher does get sent down when Pinero is ready, it may be Bobby Wilson and not Conger.
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.

I did take Conger for an end game $1.
