Edwin Jackson?

#1 Post by special k »

Jackson's available for a FAAB bid tonight in my AL-only, 10-team standard 5X5.
I'm in a dogfight for first. Wrote off saves. I am first in WHIP and ERA, small margins. Second in Ks to my main competitor. Fluky luck leaves me fifth/sixth in wins.
My staff:

F. Hernandez, Garza, G. Floyd, Hughes, Niemann, Westbrook (allowed to keep in in NL), Breslow, Oliver and Mosely (picked up as stopgap, plan to replace him with MR when Pettitte returns).

Obviously, Mosely is the one to go. But I lead by just in .08 in ERA, .01 in WHIP. Jackson would wipe out the 10-K deficit in strikeouts, but at what cost?

How do you all project his WHIP/ERA back in the AL? Mediocre, bad or not-with-a-barge-pole? I could take a flyer, and then replace him if he blows up. Is that the best course?

I do have $57 out of $100 FAAB left, but others have more, and I do need help on O: Right now I'm lighting a candle for the health of Pena, Kinsler and a few old farts like Damon and Posada, and hoping Rivera gets his job back. (Have picked up Kila K for Pena and am wondering if Murphy will keep playing for Texas.)

I am personally not touching Jackson if I am in a close ERA/WHIP tussle. He has his moments, but overall, he walks too many and is prone to the long ball.

He could go on a fabulous run the next 9 or so weeks, but I am personally wary.

If you have small margins in WHIP and ERA, you want no part of Jackson _ we suffered with him through his stay in the desert (and I BEGGED my father not to go after him ...c'est la vie) - I think an 8 walk no hitter is representative of what he may bring you.
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.
