Soriano for Joba and a reserve

#1 Post by Tampa Bob »

10 team, AL only keeper league. Can keep 5.

The first place team is getting killed in saves, his only weak category.

I'm not going to win and so have offered Soriano for Desmond Jennings, a minor league reserve player. They cost $1 for 3 years once they're brought up.

To balance the trade he's have to throw in a pitcher, his worst is Joba Chamberlain who is also $1 for 2 more years.

He countered with Joba and Dustin Ackley for Soriano. As I'd mentioned before he'll likely ask for Mike Ynoa back but that's no problem (thanks Rob).

Now the question is, what do we think of Ackley? He's 22 and in Double A holding his own after a tepid April.

Jennings is 23, in AAA, and kicking ass. Clearly one of the top prospects in baseball.

It's an old friends league so I don't want to pump up the first place owner without getting top dollar. Is Ackley a top 20 prospect?

Thanks ... TB

Is Ackley a top 20 AL prospect - maybe but likely another year away.

I would hold out for Jennings - you can't be handing the guy improved shot at 1st without getting a top minor leaguer back - top 20 not as good as for sure top 10.

Frankly if you offered Soriano for Joba and Jennings and he wanted Ynoa "thrown in" I would counter with Soriano and Ynoa for Joba, Jennings AND Ackley

....or tell him to go fish

Also, Bob - Jennings may have a ready made job for him next year if the Rays move Crawford or he walks away. Joba and Ackley for a top closer simply isn't enough. The Cap'n's analysis is dead on.
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.

We're on the same page. I opened with a rejection of his Ackley offer and reiterated that to me, it's a Soriano for Jennings trade.

I can't just hadn him a piece he really needs. He has to earn it.

Thanks, guys.
