Calculating weights for non-standard categories

#1 Post by brooklyn49 »

The CVRC provides recommended category weights for standard 5 x 5 leagues (eg 1.35 for HR). For non-standard categories, is there a methodology for determining a more appropriate weighting factor? For example, in my league, BB is a category which would seem to correlate with HR. Giving it a weighting of 1.0 on top of the 1.35 for HR's might overstate the value of power hitters; ignoring it doesn't seem like the right answer either.

Similarly, pitching does not have any weightings other than 1.0 for all categories. The same question applies: is there a methodology for determining category weights for categories other than those in standard leagues and for pitching categories?

The best thing to do is run everything with "1" because that is how it should be and judge if the numbers pass the sniff test. If not, determine what players are "off" relative to what your league bids and figure out why they are off and adjust the weights accordingly. Does your league "overpay" for BB, etc.

Then you use the two lists in concert to gauge market value and real value to put the most intrinsic value onto your team.
