#1 Post by shif6 » September 21st, 2017, 4:39 pm

AL 10 team 5x5 Ahead by 6 wins and 23 strikeouts (down from 32); era close with second place team slightly ahead of me in this category 3.75-3.76 ; (whip ahead of 2d place team 1.206 to 1.219) upcoming starts from Bauer, Carrasco, and Erasmo Ramirez. Who would you sit? Later Tomlin, Snell, and Paxton

Where are you in the standings -- context is everything

I'm in first 79 to 71.5. If I start my starters, it looks as if I could lose 2 in WHIP; If I sit my starters I would lose my lead in K's and could lose my lead in wins.
Meanwhile, the second place team could gain 1.5 points in wins by passing other teams. He has to keep starting pitchers to get those points in wins which jeopardizes his era position. I could lose two points in HR's and gain 2 in runs (I'm behind the second place team by 4). Overall, it is probable I will hold on, but it could be very close.

My inclination now is to start my pitchers unless it is clear at the end I am gambling unnecessarily. If I were more cold blooded, I would concede wins and K's and hope to regain era and hold on in whip.

Agree -- keep using starters to maintain K and W lead, then let the ratios take care of themselves. Make him catch you.
