Who to pick up for the home stretch

#1 Post by CubFan » September 17th, 2017, 6:48 pm

12 team AL only 5x5 H2H keeper league. Would you put in a bid, say $2, for Austin Hays? And if so, which two from Kepler, Hays and Teosco Hernandez would you play next week? Kepler has done nothing for 3 weeks but he's still Minny's LFer. Hays raked in the minors and am wondering if Showalter will give him regular ABs going forward. Hernandez has been playing alot but has cooled over the past few games.

Hernandez and Kepler for me -- it's all about playing time this time of season, not small sample performance.

That said, it you want Hays, why bid $2? Is that all you have? Do you have to keep him? The tone of the question suggests you don't want to bid a lot. If you want someone, get him. Can't take it with you.

I've got a bunch of FAAB $$ left. It was more for next year as a possible keeper. I'm willing to ride with Kepler and Hernandez if I didn't get Hays. But if I got Hays was thinking of playing the hot hand in the championship game.

Latest talk is Hays has a good shot at starting in the OF in 2018 over what the O's have been putting out there and he might be worth keeping or using as a trade chip in the off season.

Actually I was going to sit Kepler this week and activate Bird so I'd have Bird and Hernandez active. You prefer Bird and Kepler over Hernandez due to pt even though Kepler has been ice cold for 3+ weeks?

I'd take players on two teams playing for the wild card that haven't clinched it yet rather than two teams who aren't playing for very much of anything.
These are my views based on my own opinions and observations - your mileage may vary.

Kepler and Bird for me. Yanks have 6 games vs. RHP. Twins play 7, 3 vs. LHP but Kepler is still a regular. Streaks are non-predictive, they can be snapped at any time.

Thanks Todd and "kid" for responding on short notice. Understand the rationale of taking players on teams in the playoff hunt and had thought of that. Also looked at the reality that Jays/O's want to see what these kids have as they plan for 2018 but that also doesn't mean they'll play every day. And Kepler sitting against lefties and being ice cold concerned me. In the end it didn't matter as I didn't get Hays. Another owner bid also $2 and he got him due to league standings.

Now we know why Todd wins these leagues and I suspect "kid" has won his fair share of titles. Sitting Kepler instead of Hernandez is coming back to bite me so far. Hopefully it won't cost me.
