OBP, SLG leagues

#1 Post by bwroyce » February 13th, 2018, 5:17 pm

How are you adjusting your rankings for leagues with extra categories like OBP and SLG? I play in a league (10 team, Roto, Mixed 7x7 w/ OBP and SLG) and I'm trying to decide how much to devalue steals. I don't think it is as simple as 1/7th vs 1/5th of the categories. Does anyone know of formula coefficient to relate SB to Runs? It's obviously not 1:1 but how much more likely are you to score from 2nd than 1st base? Sluggers will give you a 1:1 boost in R, RBI, Avg, OBP, SLG with each HR but probably won't steal many bases. An SB doesn't have 1:1 correlation with any stat other than Avg or OBP.

Basically trying to figure out how much to devalue guys whose early round value is tied to their speed like Altuve, Turner, Marte, and even Goldscmidt.

That's not how valuation works - correlation between stat categories really isn't a way to look at it.

To be accurate, the numbers should be run specific to the league.

That said, Just based on steals, those that steal a lot, say 25-plus, will drop $1-$2 in their category contribution. You can sort of see this in the posted AL and NL only numbers, where a SB specialist is worth a buck or two more in 4x4 compared to 5x5.

In a league with OBP and SLP, I probably would really fade SB. I'd get some here and there, then see how the season plays out. In a shallow 10-team league, there will be steals available if necessary.
