d'uh. this is so effin obvious I can't believe I haven't read/thought of this myself by now. I mean, hello!, Tulo's the SS, where did I think they were going to play Scutaro. Wow, a guy leaves the AL and even the obvious becomes lost on me.

Re: ROUND 17 Pick 9 Nick Markakis, OF, BAL

#12 Post by southpaw » March 14th, 2012, 10:09 am

I really don't like this pick but I can't see him sliding much further. I've never owned Markakis on any team before. Always thought he was one of the most overrated and overdrafted players in fantasyland. But I'm taking him here. Here's why...first of all, he does hit for a good average and I need that with some suspect BA's on my team right now. Need some help there and he does give me that much. I also think he's good for something along a 15/15 or 17/13 line with 80 runs and 80 rbi and that's not bad coming from an OF4 in round 17. So I'll take him here and reluctantly become a first time Markakis owner.

He was my next pick for all the reasons you listed. I agree with everything you said, except the part where you say you don't like it. At this point, really, what's not to like?

I ALMOST took Markakis. The fact he was still on the board in this draft shows how far his stock has dropped. I remember when it looked like he was going to be one of the next great OF's - but the power he showed early went MIA. I was going to grab him for BA boost as well as it's the one plus skill he still brings to the table. I was trying to sneak him around, so I think you did well here.

Re: ROUND 17, Jose Tabata, OF, PIT

Before a series of somewhat freakish injuries derailed his season, he was looking very promising last year… every bit the player the Yankees had such a hard time letting go of. A healthy Tabata should produce in the neighborhood of 5/80/50/.280/30, with plenty of upside.

I'll take the chance of a health risk for upside in round 17.

I agree with everyone. To get that type of production this late is great. Now that everyone knows what he is, and stops hoping he'll become something more i thin khe gets properly evaluated.

Scutaro's value is still repressed I think, but he is locked in as the No 2 hitter in what figures to be a fairly potent Rockies offense. His biggest benefit to my team will be BA and Runs, as he's going to see pitches to hit ahead of Cargo and Tulo - and then he'll be crossing the plate a lot after they drive him in. Add inthe fact that when he adds 2B eligibility two weeks in - he covers both positions for me and I'm sold.
I debated Walker vs Scutaro and went Walker because I thought I'd get a little more production, I forgot about the dual eligiable which I think improves his value slightly. Nice pick.

Me too. Like, three times.

There's just no upside with him, but a healthy Nick is a lock for 15 75 75 .290 10. That's an absolute steal in the 17th round.

The fact that he just had abdominal surgery scared me off, I suppose.

Worth mentioning though, he's had 600+ PAs for years now, so he'll probably be fine.

At this point, I need a stable arm with decent ratios, and Lilly fits the bill.
