The Wangers Impact

#1 Post by viper » April 20th, 2009, 6:50 pm

The saying goes "T'was a brave man who ate the first oyster". Well, there has to be a first post so I thought I would start things. And it has to be about the wonderful Chien-Ming Wang.

I drafted a team without a closer. I tried to draft as many solid to good starting pitchers who had above average ratios. Because I never seem to do well in saves anyway I figure to try and dominate Wins & Strikeouts while being solid in the two ratio categories. It would be something different for me. And then I was wanged.

His line is wonderful.
6 innings pitched
23 earned runs
23 hits allowed
6 walks
1 strikeout

With him I have a 1.340 WHIP [worth a 6 on a 13 top] and a 4.44 ERA [worth a 7]
Without him I would have a 1.161 WHIP [worth a 12] and a 2.887 ERA [worth a top 13]

Wangs' efforts have cost me 12 points all by his lonesome self.

As a Yankee fan, I didn't have a good feeling about Wang coming into this year so I stayed far, far away from him in all my leagues.
Jim was teeing off from the back tees. On his down-swing, he realized that his wife was about to tee off from the red tees, directly in his path. Unable to stop his swing, he hit Sue directly in the temple, killing her instantly.
A few days later Jim received a call from the coroner concerning her autopsy. "Jim, Sue seems to have died from blunt force trauma to the head. Is it correct you hit a golf ball and struck her in the temple."
Jim replied, "that's correct."
"I also found a large bruise on her right hip. Do you know anything about that?"
"Yes sir," Jim said, "that was my mulligan."

To be absolutely fair he does have 2 strikeouts.

That makes his line:

2 Home Runs
6 innings pitched
23 earned runs
23 hits allowed
6 walks
2 strikeouts

There is a beautiful symmetry there for Wang non-owners and Yankee Haters. Sorry Viper, I hate to see it be you. At least you don't have him (I hope) in your 2 no-drop leagues.

I only have him in this league. In one of those leagues he is still active. The other has its FAAB on Wednesday evening but I'm sure he will be retained. At least in this league I can bench him.

Happy Birthday Mike. Dexter Fowler and I wanted to give you a little something... like 5 SBs to knock you off your throne. 8-)

For the next few minutes at least....
So, whoever it is that is trying to trade with Z starts with, "Well, I see you have some speed on your team, and you could pick up points in..." and Todd cuts him off right there, and says, "I know what I have and I need, and what you have and what you need. Who do you want to trade?" Or something to that effect (probably pithier).
Totally disarmed the other guy. So direct. I was just crying it was so funny and right.

cwk1963 in freefall. Now I know what base-jumping feels like.

I am trying to tell myself not to panic but it is getting hard. My hitting is ok but my pitching it just horrible. Trying to wait for Webb and Kuroda to come back before I try and make any major deals. Hoping it is not too late however.
