Washington DC and the Drafts

#1 Post by viper »

This year may be unprecedented in the drafting annuls for a city.

1. The Redskins had the #5 pick in the NFL draft. They took a College junior which made him as young of a draft choice as possible. It isn't all that uncommon for a junior to go first but it fits the trend.

2. The Washington Wizards have the #1 pick and they damn well better take Walls from Kentucky. As a college freshman, he also is the youngest player available. Again this is common.

3. The Washington Nationals have their 2nd consecutive #1 pick in the MLB entry drfat and they are likely to take Bryce Harper who clearly is the youngest player available. Technically he should be a high school junior but did thing to make himself available this year and not next. High school seniors get drafted but the #1 pick has many college juniord drafted #1 becuas ethey are closer to the bigs.

The same city has the #5, #1 and #1 selections in the three major sports drafts. And in each pick they will likely take essentially the youngest player eligible in the draft.

Yeah, but where do the Capitals draft? Probably not very high, since they finished first in the East this year. I never really noticed how horrible DC teams are outside of hockey.

The last Caps #1 overall was some Russian. He turned out to be pretty good.
