ESPN Money league 3 openings (somewhat unique format)

#1 Post by southpaw »

I'm not the commissioner but I'm helping try and find owners for a new keeper league that has some unique features. $25 buy in payable via Amazon Gift Card. The league manager is a highly respectable commissioner of several leagues.

Here's a copy/paste of some of the league rules:

LEAGUE SETTINGS

16 teams, 4 divisions

H2H Points

6 playoff teams (4 division winners plus 2 wildcard teams)

Starting Rosters: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, OF, OF, OF, OF, UT, P, SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP (total roster size 27 - includes 7 bench spots)

* Note, there also is 1 DL spot I'm not including as part of the 27

IP per matchup cap is in place

15 maximum total free agent claims for the year

PRIZE POOL

$400 prize pool

* $160 League Champion

* $70 League Runner-Up

* $25 Third Place

* $10 Fourth Place

* $80 ($20 to each division winner)

* $20 ($10 to each wildcard team)

* $10 (bonus to top-scoring team - regular season - all teams eligible)

* $25 (bonus to top-scoring non-playoff team)

$260 salary cap, 12 keepers (both not applicable until Year Two)

DRAFT AND SALARY INFO

Before draft, select three players from your MLB franchise.

Salaries for these players will be assigned as such:

$17 (highest ranked - based on ESPN rankings - MLB franchise keeper)

$12 (2nd highest ranked MLB franchise keeper)

$7 (3rd highest ranked MLB franchise keeper) $1 (if your 3rd choice has never appeared in an MLB game)

Note: Free agents will be assigned a $10 salary - meaning $15 to keep the next season*

* All player salaries increase $5 per season (thus your $17 top franchise keeper will cost $22 to keep next season)

Draft (offline for two or three rounds - then online)

24 Rounds: Salaries for first year will be assigned at a much-higher mark than in future years - and will be based on round drafted. In subsequent years, teams will keep 12 players (must include two from ML franchise) under a cap of $260 - and the draft will be 15 rounds. (Salaries from Year Two onward likely will be assigned as such - $15 for 1st round, $14 for 2nd round….down to $1 for the final 15th round.)

But for the first year, to ramp things up immediately, we're going with a high start - and a staggered setup - as such:

1st Round - $32

2nd Round - $30

3rd Round - $27

4th Round - $21

5th Round - $20

6th Round - $19

7th Round - $18

8th Round - $17

9th Round - $16

10th Round - $15

11th Round - $14

12th Round - $13

13th Round - $12

14th Round - $11

15th Round - $10

16th Round - $9

17th Round - $8

18th Round - $7

19th Round - $6

20th Round - $5

21st Round - $4

22nd Round - $3

23rd Round - $2

24th Round - $1

First year draft order will be determined based 50% on reverse ML 2010 standings (where your chosen franchise finished) and 50% on combined ranking of your top two pre-selected franchise keepers (using ESPN's rankings being updated by Tristan Cockroft).

Draft will snake. (Might not snake in subsequent years - still considering how to handle this but will decide soon.)

Teams chosen so far: Philadelphia, St. Louis, Florida, Milwaukee, Colorado, Boston, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Kansas City, Minnesota, Texas, Cincinnati
