Who is the 2010 surprise pitcher?
It seems there is a Cliff Lee every season in large mixed leagues. Some pitcher who goes undrafted [or is at best an afterthought] who goes on to lead teams to fantasy titles. Who are this season's early candidates or is this a year without a Cliff Lee Trophy winner?

How he projects may not be as important as how much better he is than the player he replaces on your specific team and how he compares to current and future options. another alternative is to check out 2-start pitchers once the season gets underway. The first week they will all be studs who were drafted with maybe a really poor exception. Searching for 2-start pitchers is part of managing pitching.

In the pitcher's CVRC, there is a Texas pitcher named #N/A. He appears to be a decnt MR. Is he a rookie or what? He was also in the 3/18 CVRC so I guess he hasn't been sent down yet.

Thoughts on my AL Auction tomorrow
First I plan to stop at Starbucks near the draft site. I mean it will start at 9am so coffee sounds right. It's 10 teams, no bench. If you draft a player who is sent to the minor prior to the season's start, you cannot reserve him. You either cut him or play with a black hole. Carlos Santana cannot ...

Re: All RP strategy - NFBC Satellites
You should not try to do anything overly different. Pretty much stick with your original draft plan. I like to see if any team is doing all closers or no closers. Normally, two closers for every team put anything from a '15' to a '1' in play depending on the skills of the closers and injuries. If on...

Re: AL only, including NL teams (values)
CVRC can be run by changing the league designation of the NL teams from "N" to "A". No answer aside from that. I'm not a keeper players although I have a Dynasty team. Question though is can an NL player be retained as a keeper even if that player's team in no longer one of the N...

at the 14 in the rookie league I took Tulo and followed at 2.2 with Adrian. However, if my choices were Wright or Adrian, it would have been Wright. I even had him before Tulo. Had both Fielder and Howard in front of him too. Alas, the rookies did a good job of not letting one of the major players s...

As I recall, on Sunday night after the FAAB has been processed, it also shows the highest losing bid. I recall winning a bid once at 264 and the highest losing bid was 263. How to use CVRC in my AL auction
This is an annual issue and I have yet to figure it out. MY AL auctions are going up the next two weekends. We draft nine pitchers with no bench. No draft 'em, you play 'em. Not normal these day but more so in the past. Only DL'ed players can be put on reserves. This is a 10 team league. Four of the...

PPOS is where his replacement players numbers are found. QPOS is the key. I, like many, use CA & OF since I want to totally discount scarcity. Well actually I calculate both to see the differences. Except for catching, it is within what I consider is the random factor or, for me, $6.

Figgins at 2B and my AL-Only League
I have an interesting situation and am open to opinions. Background; AL-only auction league, normal 14-hitting positions, 1 game positional qualification, no bench. Figgins will be 2B eligible for the second week of the season. I would think you would try to get a decent 3B for the corner slot and t...

there should be a solid 1B on the first wheel. Adrian Gonzalez could very will be there along with Youkilis. There probably won't be a top SS. It is early for Jeter. He might be there at the 4/5 loop. Kinsler & Utley ought to be gone but Phillips is a possibility. A factor will be how your speci...

I just saw the AL 5x5 tiers. They seem to visually show what I was talking about. Fir my league, every player above the $5 tier would be drafted and that would be enough. The league has no bench so onl;y 140 hitters get drafted. Also, you cannot draft players who are not on the MLB rosters. A disabl...

I play in a local 10-team AL-only auction league. I'm actually defending and it is my next league to draft. Last year I had seven $1 players so I guess you would say I did Stars & Scrubs. I just ran CVRC using positions and a CA/OF mix. I wanted to see if there was much difference and where scar...

I agree as when you do your thinking as the draft progresses. Still the first round is really cut and dried, assuming you gave thought to your pick. In the Rookie Legaue, I was at the 14 slot. I kept track of the #15's pitchers, catchers and closers. After I had my second closer, I quit following an...

Why isn't the first round of any straight draft the single fastest round of the entire draft? This really shouldn't assume you already know your draft slot but even more so if you do. I'm curious how Shandler will handle Saves [he seems to be a proponent of do not chase saves at the draft table] in his first main event venture. All semi-reasonable closers are gone by round 15. The top half are gone just after round 10. And all the better closers-in-waiting are on rosters by the 2...

it is hard to imagine drafting 675 players. I guess that would be a deep league regardless of your definition. Of course, there are 750 players on all the 25-man rosters and an additional 450 on the 40-man rosters.

In general, do the player profiles reflect the projections? For example, if you say that the numbers should spike, are the projections slightly on the optimistic side? And if the profiles, suggest you to be careful, are the projections slightly on the negative side?
