Re: Mixed keepers

Thanks for the comments and keep 'em coming! My view on Granderson is that he'll go for less than 25 in the auction. He went for 20 last year, coming off a much better season, in terms of SB and AVG. Hard to see him going for 25 this year, even with a little inflation. Braun and Webb are somewhat si...

Mixed keepers

12 team mixed 5x5 (k/9 not k), 260 auction, 2nd year keeper league. Must keep 3, can keep at most 5. Salaries are bumped by $5 each year and free agents can't be kept, so I expect only moderate inflation, if any. Guys even marginally worth considering to keep: RMartin 21 (salaries are 2009 ones) RBr...

Re: Which way to turn?

I'd protect Shields, and hope Youk slips through, since I think Shields at 12 is better value than Youk at 17. Another possibility is trying to work a trade of both of them for one even better keeper, before the expansion takes place. Then you keep that guy and your other four, and Choo at 1, assumi...

Re: Keepin' 6

Haven't seen any values here, but using values at another site, and going strictly by value, would be: ARod, Hanley, Webb, Abreu, Victorino, Rivera. Gonzalez and Liriano next, but a ways back ($6). That said, given it sounds like a "dynasty" league, I could see an argument for Liriano or m...

Re: Coco Crispy for Markakis

Very nice keeper list. If off-season trading is allowed, I'd make every effort to deal 2 of your 7 guys for 1 who is a better keeper than either of the 2. That may be hard to find, as all of them are pretty good, in my mind. I'd probably look to package Crisp with another of your 6, since you're try...

Yes, I also heard $99. I hope you can work something out with them, Todd.

Re: Best sites to run a league?

I've been in touch with Onroto. They plan to include pretty much all of the old TQStats features for this year, AND to try to add live standings. That was the one thing about CBS that made it much more attractive to our owners than the old TQ. Their old FA processing was as good, or better than CBS....

Re: Forum Sections

I'd like to request a "Commissioners" forum. The one at HQ is pretty active, and it's a way to segregate discussions about running leagues. It would be for discussing things such as sites to consider (pros/cons), dump trade handling, disputes, etc.

Hard to believe you're even thinking of trading for Chili Davis. That guy must be 50 years old by now! :-)

Re: Keeper and trade help

Volquez - coming up in the middle of last season? You may have him confused with someone else. He was with the Reds all of last season. 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA in THAT park with 200+ Ks? How can you not keep him at 3 units? You're right - I had the names confused. The guy who I can keep at 3 is Volsta...

Free projections?

Does anyone know of any web sites which have free 2009 projections available now? (I realize you get what you pay for, but usually even the bad ones are decent for a ballpark on players)

Re: Keeper and trade help

Interesting first few responses. I'm very surprised that you both put Volquez in the top 6. I know he did pretty well after coming up middle of last season, but his minor league stats are not dominant (that I recall), and I'd figure him to have more risk than Dempster or Capps. Doumit's the other on...

Keeper and trade help

12 team 5x5 NL only, $260 cap, salaries would be for 2009. Dumped fairly early last year and wound up with more potential keepers than our limit (6). Probably will want to pursue pre-keeper deadline deals to improve the final 6, although that may be difficult to accomplish. I've listed them in my cu...

Re: Draft day software

Lol. In one of my leagues, which has been around for more than 20 years, one owner buys a magazine the day before the draft each year, and pages through it repeatedly during the auction. He has 2 titles, and I'm still looking for my first! Ouch!! Does he qualify for the blind squirrel category? I d...

Re: Draft day software

My league plays it very close to the vest. So much so that there's suspicion a couple are showing up with magazines that have another magazine cover over it to throw people off the trail. When I'm at a draft and they show up with magazines - I usually look at it as one less worth adversary to worry...

Re: AL Keeper List Advice

I am in a 6 team AL only keeper auction league with $260 cap. I can protect up to 7 players at the following salaries. Which players would you protect for the 2009 season at these values? Thank you for your assistance. Miguel Cabrera - 41 Alexei Ramirez - 10 Chris Davis - 10 Mike Aviles - 10 Matt W...

Re: Best sites to run a league?

Not pushing rotowire at all. But salaries and contracts are on the same page (perhaps they were not before). If you use FAAB weekly, players dropped will be free agents in the next week's list of free agents. Free agents are linked to rotowire news and data. Sounds like some of the issues that I ha...

Re: Best sites to run a league?

Used TQ for many years, bailed when CDM messed it up, went to Rotowire that year, moved to CBS last year. Rotowire lacked some features that made it tough on the commish (me) - no default salaries for FA's, maintaining contracts and salaries on separate screens, how it handled players dropped during...

Re: Draft day software

I also think that if you are in a league loaded with HQ subscribers that it is better to go with the MB view than get in bidding wars. And vice versa. Yes, I now have at least one other HQ subscriber in each of my leagues, and it's hard to get "bargains" on the guys who they're high on. I...

Draft day software

Since the site's new, and you look to be taking requests (can you play "Misty" for me?)... I've used Merv Pate's Rotolab software for the last 3 or 4 years in my drafts. I really like it, and it's hard to imagine doing an auction without it. Unfortunately Merv is closely tied to BBHQ, and ...
