Nice job Shawn.
I have #6, #7 and #13 on my farm roster in the XFL league, I can live with that.

Re: Strikeouts in the NFBC
I don't think this has to be restricted to NFBC discussion. I have what I think may be an interesting take on the whole "can't draft wins" mantra which I have been toying with as a blog piece but requires a bit of research. I'll see what I can do about hammering that out. A site feature we...

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS
I would like to see an essay on drafting in smaller leagues Noted -- I consider 12-team mixed Tout Wars a smaller league and I most definitely use different strategies. Things like 8 team AL or NL only also are smaller leagues and an essay on drafting in keeper leagues (specifically the extent to w...

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS
This may not be 100% totally relevant to the draft kit (may be better served as a sticky), but I have yet to see a site with a glossary of terms. For the newbies (and for some of the old timers, for that matter), a common base of understanding may be helpful. For example; What is a redraft league? ...

Re: Home Runs as a benchmark category
As an aside, communicating with drapes about his team emphasized the need for some attention given to head-to-head strategy. We'll be sure to broach this in the Draft Kit and if drapes is so inclined, he can post his team in another thread specifically about H2H strategy and why the team looks like ...

Re: What Would You Do?
I like Phillips. Really, I do. I agree that last season was bad luck but do you think I'm putting too much into people just looking at the surface stats and not the underlying reasons (not to mention the broken finger) and that will deflate his value enough to be re-gotten for less than $27? This i...

OK, where the heck did I get the $22 from?!?!?!?!
Must have been another post and it was stuck in my head and I juxtaposed them.
You say 6x6 -- what are the extra categories?

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS
I found one of the most useful tools from the old mastersball pre draft prep was the depth charts on one page with top minors at the bottom. I think Rob may have did the spreadsheet work. In addition to his auction tracker software which is very cool and easy to use. Good call on the depth chart. I...

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS
I was a big fan of Gary's essays from 2 years ago. He went through top players at each position, a 3 year stat line and a small paragraph explaining it. I might have saved a copy of it somewhere if you don't remember what i'm talking about. Gary did a set of profiles that complemented the quick-hit...

Re: do i keep any pitching?
Don't get me wrong, I am not predicting a flop for Burnett. It has everything to do with opportunity cost. I can almost promise that someone will go for $22 like Peavy/Halladay/Beckett AND someone like Felix/Oswalt/Lackey/Liriano will go for $15-$17.

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS
I've got at least two other auction pieces already in mind, one has to do with the difference between the number of players a conventional system assigns values of $1-$3 and the number that typically get bought in that range, which is a topic I broached last spring but really never expanded on as we...

Re: What Would You Do?
I talk a lot about Phillips in the blog entries, in a 16-team league, I think he is an early to mid 2nd rounder thus justifies the $27 salary. A lot of last season was bad luck and not bad playing. With Burnett, it has more to do with my experience in this size of league and I feel you will either g...

Re: Home Runs as a benchmark category
I suspect "target drafting" will be a much-discussed principle in the coming weeks, along with the proper use of ADP (average draft position). That said, I do agree with Gary in that there is definitely a cause-effect dynamic going on. But at the end of the day, the best way to make sure y...

Re: Keeper help needed
The whole weight thing with Cabrera is anecdotal and entirely overblown. Last 5 years, Miggy C has played 160, 158, 158, 157 and 160 games. Hamilton played 156 last season. Last 5 years, Miggy C has hit 33, 33, 26, 34 and 37 HR. Hamilton hit 32 last season. Last season, Cabrera had 16 HR in 348 AB p...

I think with the added health risk, I'd throw him back. The 30 HR is sweet if you can cover the average, but he could also get 8 in April and be done.

Re: Keeper help needed
There is some power upside for sure. I think what is happening with Hamilton is too many are getting caught up in "the story". You don't get extra credit for owning such a feelgood story. Last season was the first Hamilton played the whole way through. Lesser "stories" would stil...

Re: Keeper help needed
For me it is Hamilton and it is not that tough a choice. Cabrera's upside is HUGE. Hamilton's success is too reliant upon Kinsler and Young. That will leave your corners filled, but considering the quality, I see no worries. Of course, if trading is an option, I would look for a 2 for 1 and target a...

Re: Tiers
I'll make a couple of comments now and am curious to what others do. We'll have an article on tiered drafting in the Draft Kit. To me, you do not do an entire draft strictly using a tiered approach. The key is using tiers to identify pockets of value, or pockets devoid of value, looking at positions...
