Re: Draft Position Trade

#2 is worth about $40 while #19 and #21 combined in the low $50s so a ninth rounder is "fair". Anything you get back sooner, "on paper" is a good deal for you.

It's worked fine. Most will use 14H/9P but it's nice to have the spot for another arm when injuries strike.

Re: Points League - slotting SPs into overall Draft Rank

Looks to me like you can overwrite the AB column in the hitting with hits, just summing up 1B, 2B, 3B and HR then everything else is there. With pitching, all that's missing is HRA which you can use vlookup to pull into the HBP column and you're all set. If that doesn't work (it should), I'll take y...

To be honest, I don't think drafting changes much. It's still about identifying market inefficiencies, reading the room, etc, The main difference is in-season where 12-teamers require more churning while 15-teamers require a little more patience since the available player pool is significantly weake...

If there's no cost involved, prefer Jean Segura over Michael Conforto - though adding OPS makes it a little closer. Somewhat depends on the league as Segura is hugely underappreciated and is often available at a discount. But yeah, in a vacuum, Segura.

Re: Who to drop in h2h for Puig?

Your team, your call. I'm not picking up Puig. The baseline expectations for all three is close. Currently, we know Hernandez is leading and Soler is hitting second every day. We don't know how much Puig will play and when he does, it will be in the lower third. Even if Puig plays full time, we're l...

That's really not for us to decide. The question is who are you willing to give up and whether the other party is interested. Trades aren't about value, but points potential before and after the deal.

Not sure Darvish has ever been elite - he's been a fantasy stud from high K totals. Current illness aside, he's having command and control issues. Barring injury, he and the Cubs should figure it out, maybe even while he regains health if something mechanical can be spotted or perhaps looking at pit...

I don't recommend bids. It's not about 'value" but what's necessary to pay. This is based on your league's bid history in context with how many others need the same player(s) and what they're likely to pay.

Re: Trade Brantley for Gray?

You answered your own question -- see what you can get. Brantley's injury history scares me and until I see someone consistently defeat Coors Field, I'm reticent to trust a Rockies pitcher since I don't like streaming mostly road starts as that mitigates the organic skills bump enjoyed at home. In o...

Re: Who to drop to claim Adam Jones in Roto?

I've been saying to drop Fulmer from the beginning. He's a drain in K and W in this format. As mentioned a few posts ago, this league SCREAMS having high-K relievers active so you can be more judicious with spot starters. This allows dropping (or trading) some back-end starters to free up bench spac...

Re: Luis Castillo vs MIL 5/2/18

I'll repeat, your team, your call, I can only give you some things to think about. If there's an innings maximum, I'm more prudent with starts. If there no innings max, I'm more aggressive, confident I can make up for a poor effort later in the season. I don't worry about standings now; I try to sur...

Re: Luis Castillo vs MIL 5/2/18

I haven't given a blanket recommendation -- it's contextual to the league, format, alternatives, etc. My general philosophy is do I trust the guy or not? If yes, I use him, I don't want to have the bad stuff on the bench. In this case, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Castillo struggled...

Can't say no-brainer, to many contextual aspects. Can you get more for Robert? You'll be up against the cap at some point, are there more/better players out there you can logically acquire? What are trade chips do you have, what are they likely to bring back? If just Trout gets you close to the cap,...

Regardless of what's happened, this format screams for a bunch of high K relievers active all the time, then be judicious with spot starters. Plus - everyone is technically a match up in this format. Sure, you'll almost always use the aces, but in paper, everyone is a matchup play. Re: Gray, I go by...

Re: Roto Pitching help

They're all matchup plays in a league this shallow.

Personally, I would have already had a couple of high K relievers that stay in your lineup all the time so you can pare down the number of streaming starters, availing more reserves to make sure hitting is full on Monday and Thursday.

Points are points

How many points are added/lost with the replacement pitcher versus how many Hechavarria will add? I can't say for sure without knowing the scoring or it is a daily league, but Hechavarria doesn't strike me as a player to be envied in a points league.

Points are points - really don't need to improve pitching at the expense of hitting or vice versa. In fact, in points leagues, it's much easier to take advantage of pitching matchups to bully up points than it is to do the same for pitching. Best way to analyze a points trade is estimate the expecte...

How many H2H matchups have you lost because of losing the BAvg category?

Story is helping in four categories -- plus is now hitting .253 -- I'll take that in categorical H2H, especially since Coors hasn't been Coors yet.

Point league trades are straightforward - estimate gained versus lost, incorporating all affected roster spots. No need to worry about pitching versus hitting, etc.

Not a fan of riding hot streaks since they're non predictive, however, Cron playing every day, hitting second justifies making the switch. If Cron is available now, chances are there will be someone available to replace Cron if necessary.

We can help evaluate players - are there players you want to compare? Especially in a daily league, we can't really do roster management, too much we don't know on a day to day basis.

What upside? Reports have Lourdes Gurriel's power and speed potential very tepid. Points leagues are all about counting stats - I don't see it. Twins have been crushed by weather and travel. Lynn will get innings, whiffs and wins, all integral to points.

Your team, your call.

No, not a question of an advantage - for one reason . as commissioner, you have to know. if an illegal bid is the winning bid, you have to know who the player should have been awarded to. You lose that ability with CBS. Right - and if I know, I want everyone to know. I can't have the advantage of k...

unless your are the league commissioner, that's info you should not be privy to. I disagree with this. We're all still learning about the predictive capability of the data. We're really good at reverse-engineering what happened, not so good at applying that to the future. Some of it is a leap of faith -- so and so worked with a swing coach and is getting results. The problem with that is we only hear...
