I have the impression that speed can easily be found in late rounds of NFBC (not to mention FAAB), but that seems less true with power. Accordingly, I lean against drafting speed at the expense of power in early NFBC rounds. Do others think it is easier to chase speed than power or am I mistaken?

Re: Projection Theory Poll #1
I think that 10 has to be considered an outlier. 40 would be wild speculation. I would split the difference between 20 and 30, ending up with 25-27 on the ground that 30 is the most recent information we have. This leaves me with other unless 20 is 20+ or 30 if I am asked to choose the closest number.

Re: Closers - drafting strategies
In one of my 5x5 auction keeper leagues (with generous rules on keeping players for long terms), owners pay 4x4 prices for closers (or keep them at high prices). So I rarely draft the few closers available in the draft unless a bargain falls in my lap. But I buy closers in waiting, work the wires an...

Todd (or anyone else who has the most recent version of excel for pc's)
Are you saying that Paul will work on 2008 excel for pc's (or whatever the most recent excel pc version is)? If so, I can use bootcamp and have it installed on the windows side of the mac.

Re: Projection Variations
One of the things I appreciate about Viper's post is that it avoids a trap that is easy to fall into. If you just compare HQ and MB's dollar values, some differences will be accentuated that are not real. This is because HQ has historically used a different split between hitting and pitching than MB...

Paul and Mac Excel 2008
If I open a Paul file, I am told that visual basic macros do not work in mac excel 2008. I do not know what a visual basic macro is, so I opened Paul pitchers. And sure enough, it worked until I tried to generate values. I can and will try to use Paul by eliminating the offending macros before openi...

Al Keeper problem
AL 5x5 12 owners. My co-owner and I can keep 8. Hitting inflation is about 30%. Assume that those with minor league contracts will not be in the minors at the time of our draft. That would mean we would have to include them as regular keepers. We could keep them for two years at $5 and would need to...

Is it possible to add a stat line on the tiers or is it just too much work? On the other hand, it looks as if there is not much space. Perhaps just for sb's or hr's?

The hitting profiles are sorted by first name instead of last name I assume that is a mistake. I can't figure out to rearrange it. I love the format of the tiers. Very cool!

Re: QUESTION ABOUT OUR DEPTH CHART AND RANKING TIERS
Will the tiered rankings also be available on a grid occupying a small number of pages? By the way, it would be easier to do this (and easier to vizualize for the vast majority of leagues that make no such distinction, I think, if you did not distinguish between lf, cf, and rf. This is by contrast t...

Re: QUESTION ABOUT OUR DEPTH CHART AND RANKING TIERS
I think $ values would be valuable on tiered rankings as well as a stat line. I think depth charts are widely available, that customers on this site have access to them elsewhere (on free and paid sites) and that they are not worth your time. Given your staff limits, there will be inevitable time la...

Draft Goals in Keeper Leagues
As Todd pointed out in an essay somewhere, goals in keeper leagues are a tricky business. Putting in goals based on the results of the prior year might be a fool's errand. The leading stats of the prior year (sometimes by several teams - particularly if money turns on where you place in the standing...

Re: Longoria for bruce and tavares
Powerful arguments, I agree. And I am prepared to confess error. But I would note that the lack of power in the Reds lineup could indicate that he will be given free reign to run though it would also suggest pessimism about projections for run scored. I think that his speed is precisely why his babi...

Re: Longoria for bruce and tavares
On Taveras, his batting average on balls in play was substantially lower than it has been for at least the last 4-5 years. If that goes up (as it likely will) his batting average goes up which gives him playing time. 40-45 stolen bases is not chopped liver particularly if it is accompanied by a batt...

Re: Longoria for bruce and tavares
Clearly Longoria is a better bet than Bruce (good as Bruce is). I think the question turns on how much playing time Taveras should be expected to get and how much he is permitted to run. Given the combination of power and speed with Bruce/Taveras (and Bruce's upside) I do not think it obvious that t...

Re: M. Napoli, A. Gordon for D. Ortiz?
Strikes me that both Gordon and Napoli are reasonable keepers with upside at those prices. Ortiz is overpriced. He could return that much, but he is likely to return less. At that price he has no upside to speak of. Doubtful that any of the three would be keepers in 2010 under your league's rules.

One of the problems with importing projections into rotolab (assuming it were permitted by the software) is that the names will not line up. HQ has players MB does not and vice versa. Not pushing rotowire at all. But salaries and contracts are on the same page (perhaps they were not before). If you use FAAB weekly, players dropped will be free agents in the next week's list of free agents. Free agents are linked to rotowire news and data.
