Not a tough call, imho. Especially if you need a little thump and you're in a close race, I'd do it. Who knows if you win a later bidding war, too?

AL-Only keeper advice

Happy spring, all. Looking to improve on my second-place finish by one lousy point from a year ago (made up a $30 gap in keeper lists on the winner, almost!) Standard 5X5 AL-only, 14 hitters, 9 pitchers, $260 budget, can protect up to 10, and, critically for this question, can toss players back into...

Re: FAAB bid on Matt Moore

I like the floor bid idea, maybe for players picked up after the all-star break, at least. Maybe that would prevent poaching at the buzzer. Either $5 or $10; probably my league would only go with $5. One thing is that a few of us fare well most years, and others would resent a rule change that might...

Re: AL keeper decision

In nine-team there should still be decent OF left. $24 too much for Jones, IMHO, when you can keep Pennington for $1. I would double-check the $1 OFs - specifically the 45th available - before you decide to keep Jones, and consider dumping him and Bedard. 1B is pretty shallow, There should be 27 cor...

OK, you guys talked me into to it. The last two decent OF were Kubel and Gordon, and I dropped on out Kubel at $21 and in the next bid brought up and bought Gordon at $11 yesterday. I hope you're right! And I did like the guy enough to buy him last year ... just don't want buyer's remorse 2 straight...

Good point, ARC, especially with 11 teams. Depending on his league's eligibility rules — 20 games? — there may be only eight good DHs out there. He also wants to be in a chair when that music stops.

Re: AL Keeper Help

I think the issue w/Scott is that he would be unable to bid on other DHs at the draft, not whether he would be locked in there after the season begins. What is league inflation? If there is considerable, $15 may not be so bad. And what other DHs are protected? That may also factor into what is a tou...

Hey, give credit to Da big kid, he suggested Borbon for Thome. And I just read they started Murphy in CF today. My trade partner won't be happy!

But I do have finely honed mediation skills - I live with my wife and two teenage daughters. Someone's always upset about something, guaranteed!

ARC, yes, I have both Thome and Kila K Appreciate the point on the ABs. I have only the third best keeper list, and I need to take the risk that Kila will break out and seize his opportunity if I am to make up the ground. And at the same time I didn't want to get stuck at DH, 1B isn't all that deep ...

Borbon for Thome done. I think I like this better given that Murphy is looking over Julio's shoulder and is on the left side of a potential platoon, and Murph did take over late last year, too, despite the rosy MB projection for Borbon, which granted predates what was probably just a shot across the...

Ah, there's the rub: "unless he bombs." And this is AL-only. It's not so easy as dropping a player as you refer to a post earlier, ARC, and finding a substitute that can produce 80 or 90 percent as much. If Kila flames out, I end up with Eric Chavez getting five ABs a week for the Yankees....

AL-only, standard 5X5, 10-team. Considering trading a $2 Kila for a $3 Thome. I saw the rosy MB projection for Gordon, but as a two-time owner, including in 2010, I still say buyer beware. Depending on his auction date, wouldn't he want to monitor Ogando as a potential closer? I hear Feliz may be ticketed back to the pen, but I'd wait as long as possible before submitting a list given that fluid situation. Or he may already be an intriguing trade chip.

I am in AL-Only 5x5 and am protecting Kila for $2. But I wouldn't do it for $9. The risk/reward isn't there, too much uncertainty with the prospects looming, Betemit hanging around if Kila starts slow, and KC's long-established tendency to screw up. A potential $5 return is not enough to risk $9 in ...

I wouldn't describe Crisp and Sizemore's injury concerns as similar. Sizemore had microfracture surgery, from which some athletes do not return and which may well rob him of his speed regardless.
