Re: Other auction tactics

Also a gigantic fan of announcing a guy is the "best player on the board" if I already have that dollar slot filled on my sheet. Or "last real base stealer left" if I am set in that category. It may not even be true, but there are always a couple guys who perk up, and rarely does...

Re: Other auction tactics

Forget being quiet, it is 3 or 4 hours... I am the guy who talks the entire time, every name, every buy, every injury, rumor, comment that comes up. Prattle on and be annoying. If you can, stretch it out (especially the night auctions) No one is going to shift their values off their sheets for $20 p...

Re: best teamnames 2009

I like names that are based on current events I can't say I have some up with any great ones this year yet so here are the themes I am working on. 104 names on a list stimulus bill (you would think that would be easy) unsigned free agents yankees payroll In the mean time, I'll just use my old stand ...

CHONE, really?

I was away for a few years exploring the Andes Mountains and inventing a diet cola that tasted just as great as regular but what is this CHONE stuff? It is like every player is hyped up as the next big thing. And everyone has 400AB, even back up catchers. I counted with almost 10,000 AB. Maybe I am ...

Re: A-Rod Draft Status

I would be worried far more by the fact he is shagging Madonna.

Get ready for a lot more nut grabs this year at the plate.

I mean really she practically ruined Rodman's and what has Guy Ritchie made lately?

Re: Keeper Assistance

I am in an AL only 4x4 (HR, RBI, AVG, SB, W, K, ERA, SV) 6 team $260 auction keeper league that inflates top players. If by "inflates" top players you mean over-values them, then I'd only keep players who are a real deal, but know you are probably not getting any top guys back. Nicky M, S...

Re: Handling Free Agents in Keeper leagues

Todd, what about adjustments for which division a player is in based on the pitching in the division due to the unbalanced schedule? If someone winds up in a strong pitching division do your projections take this into consideration vs a weaker pitching division? Or is this something we have to do b...

Re: Would you draft Wieters?

If your back up plan is a -$4 second catcher like Henry Blanco or Jason Kendell yeah, even a $0 with upside is better. If you only have one catcher position, probably depends on your drafting strategy. Are you going risk and reward (then yes) filled with Chris Volstad $4 pitchers and Chris Perez clo...

Re: DRAFT KIT ESSAY REQUESTS

I'm curious if there are any theories on how multiple-position eligibility affects a player's value. It's an issue that doesn't get much attention, but there is some merit in it as far as I'm concerned This would be a function of positional scarcity, which for the most part is none. the only real e...

Re: MB'09 - Chris Davis, 1B/3B, TEX

The problem is it is easy to get excited about a kid after his first trip around the league. The fact he strikesout so much could be no big deal (Ryan Howard) or could mean pitchers will figure out how to exploit him (Adam Laroche). Of course this plays into his BA a great deal. a .280 hitter with a...

Ausmus

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/01/dodgers-sign-br.html the Dodgers reached an agreement with catcher Brad Ausmus on a one-year, $1MM deal. The Padres will have to keep looking for a veteran backstop. Ausmus, 40 in April, hit .218/.303/.296 in 250 plate appearances for the Astros last year while...

Re: Multi-positional Players

I always thought that multi-positional players are highly overrated. You seem them go spots and dollars higher only to hear someone say 'I can play him in two spots.' that is great but unless you catch Chipper Jones or Ryan Braun in a transition year you probably have someone you shouldn't be excite...

Re: The Flaw of Mock Drafting

It doesn't matter because once you get past say, round 18 of the mock draft you are talking about guys who no one really wants any more. Sure one guy might let lose an f-bomb because you got the "last SB guy" and he needed them, but other drafts that guy may not get drafted at all. Your ne...
