Re: When to cut bait
Thought I'd check in on the guys who I mentioned in the original post, who were off to very slow starts. Baez - has been decent lately, showing some signs of life. Terrible OBP, but his counting stats have picked up. I've held him, and bench him when I can. THernandez - doing well lately, after the ...

Re: When to cut bait
Hidden (or not so hidden) injuries can also be a factor, especially with pitchers. A couple of the guys who I listed have been dinged. Morton's probably the most likely to not get back to what he was, as father time could be catching up. Same with Nelson Cruz, who I didn't list. I think back to last...

When to cut bait
Around this point in the season (and after) it is very tempting to "cut bait" on players who have significantly underperformed their projections. I realize it's league contextual, and we're still in the "small sample size" period, but it is frustrating to see guys who were drafte...

CVRC questions
I used CVRC for my auctions before the start of the season, and it worked great. I'd like to download the most recent content (4/8, or a later version if one comes out) to use as a basis for FAAB adds early in the season. For the auctions, I used Apache Open Office calc. START hidden columns on Roster tab
This is my first time trying to use START. The drafts are done, but curious about projected standings, so gave it a go. On the Rosters tab, I see column A and column H. Teams 7-12 will probably show as I load them. I've loaded teams 1-5, but they don't show, probably because they're in columns B-F. ...

I really like the CVRC tool and am using it in my slow auctions that are going on now. One question, or request: can you add another column to skew the values more toward what are likely to be actual bid prices? In our 12 mixed auctions, many/most teams take a stars and scrubs approach. I suspect th...

Our leagues use OBP instead of AVG. This looks easy to handle in the setup. We use SV+HLD instead of SV. I saw an earlier post that suggested to edit the data in the spreadsheet and put that sum in the SV column. I can do that, on the Pitchers tab in CVRC. Should work, although it will have to be up...

Re: NL Only Minors Draft 3/19
Thanks for your help. Just finished a tough auction. I probably underestimated inflation, as it seemed like *every* player was $5-$10 more than LABR/ESPN values for much of the auction. I thought I'd share the results of our minors draft that happened today. I floated Hamels, but no takers. I think there's concern that he'll be dealt to the AL either prior to our keeper deadline or prior to the season. I'd do the deal. A couple of things the closers give that haven't been mentioned is help in ERA and WHIP, depth at closer, and flexibility. The value you're getting is much higher than what you're giving, and the 2 guys you have to drop (assuming a fixed roster size) aren't worth much.

My results have been much better on FanDuel than on DraftStreet. I suspect that the 3 pitching slots and extra UT slots on DS make it easier to get a lot of strong players in the lineup, which makes the variance higher and allows some folks who aren't as diligent to cash more often.

We may have different results with similar lineups, as I'm playing nothing higher than $5 at this point. I figure the competition is tougher the higher you go, although I know that might not be true.

It's looking like he'll be up shortly. He's a claimable FA (FCFS) in a 5x5 h2h league. Re: Auction keeper leagues - guaranteed 1 year rentals
It might be different for leagues which have a relatively low in-season salary cap. In these leagues, over-paying for a stud may not be the best strategy, as it hurts your value-per-dollar, even with the stellar stats. I think the most successful owners in these kinds of leagues avoid these guys in ...

Keepers are due tomorrow in my NL-only league. We have 3 minors slots, with salaries of 3, 2, and 1. Re: 2 New Teams
I'm far from an expert, but here's my take on this: 1. The 2 additional teams should make the value of each player, on average, higher. Since you're going from 12 teams to 14 teams (if I read the question correctly), you could figure that each player would be roughly 2/12 (17%) more valuable (and th...

So the last place team has just raised the white flag and made most of his team available. I'll take the unpopular view - I would object. In the absence of decent rules, it's incumbent on the owners of the league to voice objections, and for the committee to do the job which the limited rules give them. Allowing lopsided trades is a sure way to a) make a league uncompetitive and b) lose o...

Agree with Todd, but the "scrubs" part is also very important. I've had success by spending early and getting down to $1 per player for my last 6-9 guys. In mixed, this usually works pretty well, as there are often guys who I value at $5-$10 around when it gets to dollar days. It can be tr...

In the league that I've run for 17 years, we've been through three sets of rules on expansion. I think our current way of handling it has been the best. We give all new owners the choice of taking over a non-returning team, or having no keepers but going into the auction with a "discount"....
